White fused alumina is a high-purity, synthetic abrasive material made from aluminum oxide. It is produced through the same basic process as brown fused alumina, but with certain variations in raw materials and processing steps that result in a higher level of purity and a unique crystalline structure. This makes white fused alumina particularly suitable for applications where a clean, high-quality abrasive is required. Here are some key characteristics and applications of white fused alumina abrasive:

Characteristics:

  • High Purity: White fused alumina is known for its exceptional purity, with aluminum oxide content typically exceeding 99%. This high purity makes it ideal for applications where contamination is a concern.

  • Hardness: It has excellent hardness and abrasive properties, making it effective for grinding, cutting, and abrasive blasting operations.

  • Crystal Structure: White fused alumina has a hexagonal crystal structure, which contributes to its sharp cutting edges and high friability, allowing it to break down during use and maintain a consistent cutting action.

  • Color: As the name suggests, white fused alumina is white or off-white in color, which is a result of its high purity. This makes it suitable for applications where color contamination is an issue.

Applications:

  • Precision Grinding: White fused alumina is commonly used in precision grinding applications for cutting and shaping various materials, including metals, ceramics, and glass. It provides a clean and precise finish.

  • Lapping and Polishing: It is used for lapping and polishing operations in industries such as optics, electronics, and the production of semiconductor components, where a high-quality, scratch-free finish is essential.

  • Abrasive Blasting: White fused alumina is utilized in abrasive blasting for cleaning and preparing surfaces in applications such as aerospace, automotive, and metal fabrication. Its high purity reduces the risk of contamination.

  • Refractories: It is used as a raw material in the production of high-quality refractory bricks and shapes due to its high-temperature resistance and purity.

  • Ceramic and Composite Materials: White fused alumina is often used as a reinforcement material in the production of advanced ceramics, composites, and abrasion-resistant coatings.

  • Wet and Dry Blasting: It is suitable for both wet and dry blasting operations, offering versatility in surface preparation and cleaning applications.

  • Jewelry and Gem Cutting: In the jewelry and gemstone industry, white fused alumina is used for cutting, shaping, and polishing precious stones due to its precision and lack of color contamination.

White fused alumina is available in various grit sizes, allowing users to select the appropriate abrasive size for their specific application requirements. Its combination of high purity, hardness, and abrasive properties makes it a valuable material in a wide range of industrial and precision machining processes.

White Fused Alumina is smelted by electric arc furnace with high quality Aluminum Oxide as raw material. It is endowed with lots of advantages like white color, high hardness, good self-sharpening ability, strong grinding force, acid and base corrosion resistance, high temperature resistance and good thermal shock resistance.

Available Sizes: F grit, P grit, and micro powder.
Application: Used to produce abrasives, suitable for grinding high tensile strength metals like various common raw steels, malleable casting iron and hard bronze.
