At Wedge India we offer low price 120 to 240 minutes 2 to 4 hours Fire Rated Wall made of various options Calcium Silicate, Vermiculite, MgO Boards and High Density Mineral Wool. Fire Rated Wall is a specially constructed wall designed to resist the spread of fire and smoke for a specific duration — typically 1, 2, 3, or 4 hours — as per standard fire resistance tests (e.g., IS 3809, ASTM E119, BS 476).
fire-rated wall is a wall system that is specially constructed and tested to withstand fire for a specified period, thereby helping to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading between different areas of a building. These walls are a critical part of a building's passive fire protection system and are required by building codes in specific locations, such as between occupancy separations, between rooms housing flammable materials, or in stairwells and corridors used for egress.
Key Features of Fire-Rated Walls:
Fire Resistance Rating (FRR):
Measured in hours (e.g., 1-hour, 2-hour, 4-hour rating).
Indicates how long the wall can resist fire exposure.
Materials Used:
- Calcium silicate boards, vermiculite boards, MgO Boards
- Concrete or masonry
- Fire-rated wall panels (metal or composite with fire-resistant cores)
Construction Requirements:
- Must be continuous from floor to roof/ceiling.
- Penetrations (pipes, cables, ducts) must be sealed with firestop systems.
- Must have fire-rated doors, windows, or shutters if openings are present.
Applications:
- Fire separation between different fire zones.
- Stairwells, elevator shafts, and corridor walls.
- Enclosures for critical equipment (electrical rooms, server rooms).
- External walls close to property lines.
Testing & Certification: Fire-rated walls must comply with
IS 3809 (India – Fire resistance test)
ASTM E119 / UL 263 (USA)
BS 476 (UK)
Common Fire Ratings:
Fire Rating | Common Application |
---|---|
1 Hour | Internal partitions in residential buildings |
2 Hour | Stairwells, shafts in commercial buildings |
3 Hour | High-risk industrial areas |
4 Hour | Firewalls in hazardous material facilities |
Fire Resistance Rating
Material | Fire Rating (Single Layer) | Notes |
---|---|---|
Calcium Silicate | Up to 4 hours | High temperature resistance, dimensionally stable |
MgO Board | 1–2 hours | Mold resistant, eco-friendly |
Vermiculite Board | 1–2 hours | Lightweight, insulating, used in high-temp zones |
Typical Technical Specifications of Fire Resistant Wall and Partitions
Providing and fixing of 2hr fire rated partition, using Single layer each side 9mm Wedge FP1000 Mineral Boards as manufactured by Wedge Group with the horizontal and vertical joints between boards staggered by a minimum of 600mm. Board size 1220mm x 2440 mm. G.I. Frame of ceiling and floor perimeter steel channel 50mm deep x 0.5mm thick will be screw fixed to the wall/floor/ceiling with M6 steel anchor bolt at nominal 600 mm centers, then the steel stud 50mm x 0.5 mm thick will sit on the channel sections at 610 mm spacing. 100 mm wide and 9mm thick Wedge FP1000 cover strips will be fixed to the steel stud on each side to complete framing.
Wedge FP1000, 9mm thick boards will be screw fixed to the frame with M4 self tapping screws at 200mm C/C. The butt joints should have screws in alternate positions. Mineral wool of density 96 Kg/m3 x 50mm thick will be tightly filled between the gaps of the boards. the joints will be finish with Fibre tape with sheet rock A.P Jointing compound to have seamless finish. And openings should provide where ever cable trays runs etc.complete.Finish should water proof paint of approved shade colour.(The complete system along with the frame work should be accordance with the criteria of BS 476: part 22 and AS 1530; part 4 and impact resistance in accordance with the criteria of BS 5234). The partition system shall have a Weighted Sound reduction Index of at least Rw 40 dB.
