Wedge 2 Hour 120 minutes Fire Rated Ceilings Specification

Wedge Suspended Ceiling Membrane – 120 minutes or 2 Hour

The minimum specification for the Wedge Fire Board suspended ceiling membrane system is as follows:

 

Steel frame

• Cross channels, 50mm web x 38mm flanges x 0.7mm thick, at maximum 1200mm centres. At each channel junction the flanges of the cross channel are removed or cut and folded flat and the web of the cross channel fastened to the web of the main channel with minimum two M3.5 steel self- tapping screws.

• Perimeter angles, 48mm x 23mm x 0.7mm thick. The 23mm leg of the angles is bedded on stone wool or intumescent sealant and fastened to the surrounding construction with M6 all-steel anchor bolts (or equivalent to suit the type of surrounding construction) at 400mm nominal centres.

• At each main/cross channel junction the frame is supported by a vertical steel channel, 50mm web x 38mm flanges x 0.7mm thick. The support is fastened to the main channel with minimum two M3.5 steel self-tapping screws. At the top each support is fastened to either the steel beams, with minimum two M3.5 steel self-tapping screws, or the concrete floor, with a M6 all-steel anchor bolt.

 

Wedge Fire Boards

Wedge Fire Board of nominal thickness 9mm or 12mm is fitted to the underside of the steel framework.

• Boards are screwed to the main and cross channels and to the perimeter angles with M3.5 steel self-tapping screws at 200mm nominal centres. All screws are positioned nominal 12mm from board edges and 40mm from board corners. All board joints coincide with the channels.

• Boards are butt jointed.

 

Wedge Stone wool
• Stone wool is fitted over the boards and steel frame of the ceiling. The

minimum specification for the stone wool is Roxul AFS 400, 90mm thick x

80kg/m3 density (7.2kg/m2).
• The wool is fitted in one or two layers.
• Alternative thicknesses and densities of stone wool insulation may be fitted

provided that the weight per square metre is at least that specified and that the percentage of binder content by weight does not exceed that of the insulation fitted in the tested constructions.

• Main channels, 50mm web x 38mm flanges x 0.7mm thick at 600mm maximum centres.

Support hangers or structural members must be provided at maximum 4.4m.

 

1 Hour 60 minutes FP-900/FirePro Fire Rated Ceilings Specification

The minimum specification for the Wedge Fire Board suspended ceiling membrane system is as follows:

 

Steel frame

Main channels, 50mm web x 38mm flanges x 0.5mm thick at 600mm maximum centres.  Cross channels, 50mm web x 38mm flanges x 0.5mm thick, at maximum 1200mm centres. At each channel junction the flanges of the cross channel are removed or cut and folded flat and the web of the cross channel fastened to the web of the main channel with minimum two M3.5 steel self- tapping screws.

provided that the weight per square metre is at least that specified and that the percentage of binder content by weight does not exceed that of the insulation fitted in the tested constructions.

Support hangers or structural members must be provided at maximum 4.4m.
